Packing for Mountain Travel in Pakistan
Packing starts with knowing what is provided. Our programmes list what you bring yourself; this guide turns those exclusions into a practical list.
Listed as your own responsibility
- Sleeping bag (trek programmes).
- Personal climbing gear (treks and expeditions).
- Mountain bike, spares and helmet (biking programmes; rental may be available on request).
- Fishing rods, flies and tackle (fishing programmes; rental may be available).
- Personal insurance, which you should arrange before travel.
Clothing for altitude and season
Mountain days can swing from hot sun to freezing nights, especially on glacier treks and the Deosai Plains. Pack layers: a base layer, an insulating jacket, a waterproof shell, warm hat and gloves, sun hat and sunglasses, and broken-in walking boots. For tours with hotel nights, modest, comfortable clothing suits both cities and villages.
Useful extras
- Power bank and a universal adapter (type C and D plugs are common).
- Cash in rupees for villages, where cards are rarely accepted.
- A small first-aid kit and any personal medication, after advice from a travel-health professional.
