Spantik Base Camp Trek

A 15-day out-and-back trek that drives from Skardu to Arandu and walks up the Chogo Lungma Glacier to the base camp of Spantik, also known as Golden Peak.

About the Spantik Base Camp Trek

Spantik Peak Base Camp is a popular playground for mountaineers attempting their first 7,000-meter peak in the Karakorum. It is also known as Golden Peak & Ghenish Chhish. We undertake a 12-day strenuous round trek in the heart of Karakorum, approaching the base camp of this beautiful peak on the fourth day of our trek. Very few adventurers visit this part of Karakorum so that we can experience its romantic wilderness.

Who it suits

The programme describes the route as a strenuous round trek in a little-visited part of the Karakoram. With six tent nights and a highest point of 4,300 m, it suits trekkers who want quiet over famous names.

  • Best time in the programme: June to the end of August.
  • Base camp is reached on the fourth trekking day, with a rest day there.
  • It shares its approach from Arandu with the Laila base camp and Haramosh La trek.

Spantik base camp or Laila base camp?

The first six days are the same as our Laila Base Camp & Haramosh La Trek: Skardu, the jeep ride to Arandu and two trekking days along the Chogo Lungma Glacier to Bolocho.

From there this trek reaches the Spantik base camp on day 7 and spends day 8 there, when the programme mentions meeting Spantik expedition members, before returning the same way. The Laila trek has no rest day, crosses the Haramosh Pass at a higher point (4,800 m in its programme) and needs a rope on the descent to Kutwal Lake. Choose this one for a rest day at base camp and a known route back.
