Travelling the Karakoram Highway
The Karakoram Highway links Islamabad with Gilgit, Hunza and the Khunjerab Pass on the Chinese border. Many of our itineraries spend at least a day on it.
The route in our itineraries
Heading north, the road follows the Indus through Besham and Chilas, the usual overnight stops, before reaching the Gilgit junction. From there the highway climbs through Hunza and Upper Hunza to the Khunjerab Pass at 4,693 m.
Our biking itinerary describes the highway as following the old Silk Route and entering China at the Khunjerab Pass.

Drive along the Karakoram Highway. Overnight in hotel.

06 Fairy meadows to Karimabad Hunza
After breakfast, trek back to Tatto village and drive to Karimabad Hunza. From there, we will board on jeeps up to Raikot Bridge (KKH) and onward travel with an air-conditioned coach to Karimabad upon Arrival and transfer to the hotel. Overnight stay in hotel at Karimabad

28: Rest day at Karimabad
After breakfast, we will visit Baltit Fort, and later on, we will proceed to Attabad Lake for cruise excursion (16 km) alongside KKH. Overnight stay in a hotel in Karimabad.
