Lake days in the itineraries

• Snow Lake Trek

  09: Baintha to Marfogoro

  Trek deeper onto the glacier towards Snow Lake. Overnight in tents (4,410m).

  Trek to the base of Hispar La, entering the true Snow Lake basin. Overnight in tents (4,750m).

  12: Free Day at Snow Lake

  Explore the vast icefield of Snow Lake at leisure. Overnight in tents.

• Fairy Meadows Trek & Hunza Tour

  08: Karimabad to Khunjerab Pass

  After breakfast, we will drive for a day excursion to Khunjerab Pass (5000m) en route. We stay short at Attaabad Lake for photography and continue our journey to Khunjerab Pass and drive back to Gulmit. On Arrival, Transfer to the hotel. Overnight stay at Gulmit

• Great Karakoram Traverse

  06: Shaicho to Dalsanpa

  After breakfast, Trek to Dalsanpa. We take a path on a wooded moraine ridge, which climbs steeply to the seasonal goat herder’s settlement at Golong. We stop for lunch here before dropping onto the glacier to scramble along its edge to bypass a steep rock section. A final scramble up a rocky gulley leads to the spectacular campsite at Dalsanpa, where there are a couple of tiny lakes and staggering views of a range of rocky summits, culminating in the snow-plastered summit of Masherbrum. • Great Karakoram Traverse

  21: Simgang to Snow Lake

  After breakfast, Trek to Snow Lake. This will be a strenuous walking day but the most rewarding and memorable day of your life. Cruising first the crevassed glacier & later the upper ice flow, follow the footsteps of Conway, Shipton, and Workmans to reach Snow Lake. The workmen, on their first sight of this magical place, are bound to declare it “A huge basin of ice & snow that seemed in no way of this world” (Tent)

• Great Karakoram Traverse

  22: Snow Lake to Hisper Pass (5150m) and Khani Basa

  After breakfast, Trek to Khani Basa. Today, we will wake up early in the morning and leave as soon as we are done with breakfast. We will try to reach the pass before sunrise. From the top of Hispar Pass (5150m), some of the finest views of the Karakorum, Ogre Peak (7285m) in the background of Snow Lake’s wide plateau and Hispar Glacier stretching as far as the eye can see, with the white pyramid of Workman peak to its north. After a refreshment and photo stop, we will proceed to the other side of the pass, which takes three hours to reach the campsite at Khani Basa. Most of the day, we will walk through deep, soft snow in single file with rope to avoid the hidden crevasses. (Tent)

• Great Karakoram Traverse

  28: Rest day at Karimabad

  After breakfast, we will visit Baltit Fort, and later on, we will proceed to Attabad Lake for cruise excursion (16 km) alongside KKH. Overnight stay in a hotel in Karimabad.

• Laila Base Camp & Haramosh La Trek

  10: Haramosh Pass to Kutwal Lake

  After breakfast, trek to Kutwal Lake. We will need rope to get down the steep snow slope. (Tent)

• Laila Base Camp & Haramosh La Trek

  11: Kutwal Lake to Sassi (Haramosh)

  After breakfast, trek to Sassi. We will walk down from the lake through green pastures to Sassi. (Tent)

• Rakaposhi/Diran BC Trek & Hunza Tour

  10: Drive to Khunjurab Pass and back to Gulmit

  After breakfast, we will drive for a day excursion to Khunjerab Pass in route to visit Ataabad Lake and drive back to Gulmit. Overnight stay at Gulmit.

• Rush Lake Trek & Hunza Tour

  06: Gutenz to Rush Lake

  After breakfast, trek to Rush Lake. It is a day for tremendous views on all sides. Follow the grassy ridge through a small pass to the Rush Lake. (Tent)

Getting there

• By road: Satpara, the Kachura lakes, Saif-ul-Malook (by jeep from Naran) and Phander.
• By jeep across a plateau: Sheosar Lake on the Deosai Plains.
• On foot: Rush Lake and Kutwal Lake, each a trek of several days.
