Trekking Permits and Zones in Pakistan
Each of our trek and expedition programmes lists a zone: open, permitted or restricted. This guide gathers them in one place and explains what the labels mean for planning.
Zone by programme
What the labels mean in practice
- Open: the programme facts show no special zone restriction.
- Permitted / permit needed: the programme lists a trekking permit, for example from Gilgit-Baltistan Tourism.
- Restricted (permit required): the K2 base camp trek is published this way; permits are arranged as part of the trip.
- The 8000 m and 7000 m expeditions list peak royalty fees; the K2 and Snow Lake treks list their permits with the Central Karakoram National Park fee.
Confirm for your dates
Permit rules and fees are set by the authorities and can change. Ask the team to confirm what applies to your route and year before you commit.
